There are only five rules:
- Listen and follow directions.
- Keep your hands, feet, and all objects to yourself.
- Use your indoor voice.
- Raise your hand to talk.
- Be kind to others.
What happens if my child breaks a rule?
- A verbal warning is given, your child's bus is moved
to yellow and he/she loses 5 minutes of recess. A yellow dot is
placed on your child's folder.
- Your child's bus is moved to red, he/she loses 15 minutes of recess, his/her sticker
is removed from the folder, and is replaced by a number indicating the rule broken.
- Note/call home to the parent.
Are their any rewards other than
stickers?
Yes! We visit the "Treasure Box" at the end of every month.
Students who do not lose a certain number of stickers for the month are allowed to choose something from the "Treasure Box".
In the beginning of the year, we allow one missed sticker and still be allowed to receive a prize. After the winter
break, we do not allow any missing stickers.
If your child was absent or the sticker fell off (there are no dots
or numbers in the square), we do not count these as missing stickers.
For everyday no one is moved to yellow, we recieve one "gumball" on our class gumball machine.
After we earn 20 "gumballs" we celebrate our good behavior with popcorn and a short movie (usually related to the current
theme).
Does my child get PE/Recess?
Yes! Each class is allowed 30 minutes of PE/Recess time everyday.
Please remember that unless it is raining the children will go outside. Please dress your child appropriately for the
weather. Also, please make sure they have appropriate shoes to play on the playground equipment outside.
Can I celebrate my child's birthday at
school?
Yes. We allow parents to either send in or bring
in small treats for their child's birthday. We allow cookies, cupcakes and similar items. We do not allow cakes
due to the need for a knife. You may send the treats in with your child or you may bring them in yourself. If
you would like to bring them in and stay for the short celebration, please contact me in advance to determine an appropriate
day and time to come into class.
How do I contact the teacher?
The BEST way to contact Mrs. Tatum is through your
child's folder. The folders are checked at the beginning of every class. I try to respond as soon as possible
to all questions or requests.
You may also call the office and leave a message. However,
I am only able to check my messages twice a day, before and after school.
What times are available for
parent-teacher conferences?
As of 08-31-09, I am available at the following times:
Daily 2:15pm - 2:45pm (except Tuesdays) &
3:00pm - 3:20pm
Other times coinside with the classes resource times (guidance, music & library).
Please see the "Daily Schedule" page for exact times.
Please let me know if you would like to conference at all. I have
various meetings throughout the week during my planning times and may not be able to meet with you.
